We’re continuing on our Christmas 2020 home tour now with our Piano room!
Overview:
This year I really focused on the book shelves and the mantle in here – and since the bookshelves are blue in here, I wanted to do BLUE Christmas décor!
Now, if you’ve seen this room during it’s ‘resting phase’, then you know the books are usually colour coded and facing forward. However, I wanted to minimize the colour backdrop here to really focus on the blue so I flipped all the books around (and will flip them back when all the Christmas décor comes down).
The Bookshelves:
Starting with the neutral backdrop of the books flipped backwards, I was able to add in some nice pops of blue that really stood out. So MOST of the décor here is simple – it’s just ornaments dotted around at various heights and sizes.
Then I added in a few various ‘tree’ shaped décor pieces for some nice height at the back of the shelves.
And lastly, I love this trick! Put a bunch of ornaments into bowls and ta-da! It looks great and it’s so easy to put together.
The Mantle:
All the greens! The entire base (all the greenery) on this mantle is from our property. We’re lucky enough to have lots of trees on our property that I can use for all sorts of projects around our house.
Next up was to add a few larger, anchoring pieces. So I’ve got the joy sign in the middle, a sled on the left and a tree on the right.
Next was adding a basic strand of lights and a bead garland strand. I found this beaded garland at Michaels this year and almost screamed when I found it! It’s the PERFECT colours to match this room.
And lastly was the finishing touches – the ribbon and ornaments. For this I cut the pieces of ribbon into small strands to put them each in individually. Then just placed the ornaments randomly in the greenery. If any pieces weren’t staying, I used the metal ornaments hooks to secure them in place.
Thanks for checking out the blog! I love how this room turned out, and love playing the bold blue in this room.
