Christmas 2020 Home Tour | Living Room
We’re onto the next room! Today I want to take you around our Christmas 2020 living room.
Let’s start with the what’s really important in this room. The Christmas tree.
The Tree:
This is a 9 foot tree! She’s big. But we needed something that properly fit the space since the is a large bay window area.
It is VERY flocked, pre-lit, and actually goes together pretty easily and does not shed that bad!
I purchased this beauty from Wayfair when we moved into this home.
You’ll also noticed we moved our couches around a bit from their usual configuration. I really wanted to be able to SEE the entire tree and presents underneath so we had to swing the couches around to get this look.
In keeping with the colours in this room we opted to do a GREEN and GOLD tree and decor in this space. I picked up green and gold ornaments from everywhere I could find (Ikea, Michaels, Lowes, Amazon), and purchased the ribbon from Michaels.
Thinking next year we I will amp up the tree a bit more with picks and thicker ribbon!
The Presents:
So I’m a big fan of presents being all matchy, matchy, and you could say am a bit OCD about it.
So I normally purchase several rolls of wrapping paper that will match my theme in a few different patterns, as well as matching ribbon and tags. I use ornaments as a little extra ‘something’ to tie on the presents as well.
Really love how the matching presents bring the gold and green theme to life!
The Bar Cart:
This bar cart is one of my favourite things to decorate for every season and occasion. It’s just so much fun!
I kept with the green and gold theme here with pops of those colours through ornaments, but I also started to add a bit of wood/rustic touches too.
I made this pinecone garland with pinecones from our yard and twine from the dollar store. Such an easy DIY, I did it twice for this room!
Then of course we’ve got the champagne and ice wine, along with my Christmas wine glass.
This polar bear I picked up from HomeSense many many years ago, and the wood trees are from Dollarama this year.
The Mantle:
Being fully honest, I normally struggle decorating this mantle – it’s original so I won’t change it/modify it at all – but between the mirror and not having a fully flat mantle area to do a traditional garland overhanging on either side I find it a bit tricky.
So I started with 2 smaller garlands, the first is another DIY pinecone garland and the second is a hand-knit tree garland from my sister-in-law! Then with command hooks I secure those 2 garlands and the stockings on either side of the mantle. It’s a tough wood so I can’t even get push-pins in it – lol!
Then for the top part, I used a few of my antique brass candle sticks to add a bit of height. Popped on some bottle brush trees from Ikea.
Then the 2 wood stained trees my hubby maid for me with some scrap pieces we had in the shop!
Around the base of this fireplace I put a small fabric tree – it’s handmade and I picked it up at the Burlington Art Gallery a few years ago. Those are also my old skates! From when I was a little kid! I can’t skate anymore…but they work great as decorations now 😉
Really happy we stuck with the GREEN and GOLD theme in here this year with a pop of rustic. I think it suits the room perfectly!
Stay tuned for my next blog, we have a few more rooms to share this year as part of the Christmas 2020 Home Tour.
